Ptex is pretty useless for game models(in most cases)

In my recent findings while I was trying out a workflow where I texture my highpoly with ptex and then bake it down to lowpoly which is suppose to create seamless high quality textures. Problem was it was too error prone and time consuming when it comes to baking inside Mudbox.
Polypainting in zbrush seems to be a more viable option since it stores the diffuse into the vertex color which can be baked in Xnormals. Ptex pretty much is only useful for movie Vfx. Until Mudbox get a better algorithm or method for baking Normal maps and Color maps, it will be inefficient to use Ptex in a game pipeline. I have wasted enough time trying to get this method to work lol.

Mudbox Tiling Texture tutorial

First of the many tutorials that I will be doing for mudbox and and maya.

This tutorial covers creating tiling textures from sculpt mesh/objects placed in the scene,done within Mudbox and Maya. Utilizing the tiling plane and extract texture mainly.

Statue Sculpt final. spent too much time on the little detail on those plating which end up very small on screen. But I got to familiarize myself with Mudbox 2014 retopology and reduce mesh. Will post a tutorial for those functions shortly after this is all textured and baked.

Mudbox ideas

I believe if autodesk needs to incorporate deformers into mudbox, which could potentially rival zbrush.
Think of the possiblities, deformers in maya can handle high poly meshes quite well.  I mean they have the code already, its just a matter of implementing. Things like Spikes can be achieve easily with Taper. Main thing Im trying to say is that with these tools, it reduces the need to bring the mesh back and forth from maya/max/xsi. Thus increasing productivity. Mudbox hands down is the most user friendly sculpting program out theres, that is why I would love to see it improve with tools. Ultimately eliminating the need to use zbrush in my workflow. Even after using Zbrush for few years, it still dreadful to use it.
